What this site collects, which third parties see it, and what it deliberately does not do — written against the tools that are actually wired up.

What we hold

If you buy an animal, we hold your name, email address and shipping address, plus what you ordered and when. We need the address to post a parcel and the email to tell you it is coming.

We never see your card. Payment is handled entirely by Stripe, on Stripe’s own checkout page; what comes back to us is a confirmation that a payment succeeded and the address you gave them.

If you sign in to the back office — which is us, not customers — authentication runs through our own identity provider and we hold the email address it returns.

Analytics, and why there is no cookie banner

Traffic is measured with a self-hosted Plausible instance and with PostHog. Both are asked for page views and a small number of named interactions, and nothing else.

The Plausible instance sets no cookies and builds no cross-site profile; it is hosted on our own infrastructure rather than a vendor’s.

PostHog is configured to forget you when the tab closes: it writes no cookie and nothing to local storage, records no session replay, and captures no clicks beyond the handful of named interactions above. That is why this site has no cookie banner — there is no cookie to ask you about.

Both tools are switched off entirely for any browser sending a Do Not Track signal. The check runs in your browser before either script is loaded, so a browser that opts out is never measured at all rather than measured and then discarded.

Who else sees it

Stripe, for payment and for the address you give them. The carrier, for the address on the label. Our own hosting and identity infrastructure, which we run ourselves. Blog and FAQ text lives with Sanity, which holds no customer data.

Your details are never traded, and never handed to an advertising network. There is no advertising on this site.

How long, and getting it removed

Order records are kept for as long as the law requires them for tax purposes, and the breeding records — which animal went where — for as long as the animal is likely to be alive, because an adopter asking about their spider’s lineage two years on is a question worth being able to answer.

Ask at help@spoodsweb.com and we will tell you what we hold about you, correct it, or delete what we are not required to keep.

Questions about any of this, or about an animal, go to help@spoodsweb.com — ask before you buy, and answers are usually the same day. Spoods Web, LLC operates Spoods Web from Arlington, Washington.
